The Offline Christmas Box

What’s in The Offline Christmas Box

A built book nook: a lit laneway scene standing between books on a shelf
MakeThe highlight · valued at $89

A large book nook to build

A little lit-up world that slides between the books on a shelf. Seven to eight hours of making, so it fills the slow days over summer, and it stays on the shelf long after the decorations come down.

A large pearl watercolour set, rows of shimmering metallic pans
CreateThe one people ask for by name

A large pearl watercolour set and an art print

A proper paint set, not a novelty one. Shimmering colours and a print ready to bring to life. A smaller version was the runaway favourite of our July Offline Box, so this one is bigger.

  • GrowA pot and seedsSomething to plant in January and watch come up. Sourced so it ships to every state and territory.
  • CookA Christmas dessert to makeThe ingredient and a proper recipe card, so they can actually make something festive rather than read about it.
  • GoAn outdoor scavenger huntTwenty-four things to find and do outside over summer, kids or no kids. Embossed by hand.
  • PlayA family card gameSomething to actually play together on the long afternoons when everyone is home.
  • RestA weighted eye maskFor the part of the break that is meant to be rest. Twenty minutes of dark and quiet.
  • ReadThe Offline, Christmas issueOur print magazine, with ideas for the holidays and the how-to for everything in The Offline Christmas Box.
  • From youYour card, handwrittenYour message on a MERRI card, tucked inside, so they know exactly who it came from.

And one or two little extras we’re not listing, so if it’s for you, there’s still something to discover.

You get the list. They get the surprise. We tell you the main things, so you know exactly what you’re giving. The details, and those little extras, stay a surprise.

Why we do not show you everything

Because we asked, and you were very clear.

In August we asked our members whether they would rather know exactly what was coming in the next Offline Box, or keep the surprise. We said no sitting on the fence. Not one person chose spoilers.

Secret please!@saratrevena I love the surprise!!!!!@a.hiker.is.never.late Absolutely keep the surprise@brreezza I'm a surprise girl@just__a__follower Keep the surprise!Felicity, on Facebook

So we tell you everything. We tell them nothing.

You know what you have bought: the book nook at $89, the pearl watercolours, and everything else above by name. What they get is an Offline Box where every single thing is still a surprise.

Already an Offline Box member? This is your December Offline Box. The same Offline Christmas Box, same contents, included in your normal subscription. On its own it’s $199.

Why this is not another hamper

An experience gift you can actually wrap.

Experience gifts are the usual advice for someone who has everything. Then the voucher sits in a drawer: one in five Australians has wasted money on a gift card they never used. This is the version that arrives in an Offline Box, with nothing to book and no expiry date.

The usual $199 gift

  • Wine, chocolate, a candle, a hamper
  • Finished by the first week of January
  • Or a voucher they have to book, drive to and use before it expires
  • Says “I spent money”

The Offline Christmas Box

  • Nine things to make, grow, cook, play and do
  • Still going in February, and the book nook stays on the shelf
  • Nothing to book, nothing to redeem, nothing to remember
  • Says “I know you”

What The Offline Boxes actually look like

A different Offline Box every month since June, and no two the same.

Members get an Offline Box from us every month, and in December theirs is this exact Offline Christmas Box. This is the standard of choosing, packing and finishing behind every one.

A past Offline Box opened on a table, full of tissue-wrapped things
A recent Offline Box laid out, with a book, watercolours, clay and a pot to grow something
A novel from a past Offline Box resting on a linen cloth
A clay project from a past Offline Box, half finished, on a wooden bench
Paints and brushes from the July Offline Box
An Offline Box wrapped in tissue and sealed by hand, ready to post
I was unsure whether it would be worth $99, but I’m genuinely blown away. I loved my first Offline Box. So many lovely things to do.

How the gifting works

Three things, then it is done.

1

Tell us where it goes

Straight to them, or to you if you would rather hand it over yourself. Australia wide, every state and territory.

2

Write the card

Your message, handwritten on a MERRI card and tucked inside. Free. We will not email them beforehand, so the surprise stays yours.

3

We do the rest

Packed by hand, wrapped, and in the post from 11 December with tracking. No postage to pay, no date to choose.

One payment. No account, no subscription, nothing to cancel, and no pricing anywhere in the parcel.

When it is sent

Order by Friday 11 December.

You do not have to choose a delivery date or work out postage. Every Offline Christmas Box is packed in the same run and goes into the post from Friday 11 December. Once it is with Australia Post the delivery date is theirs, not ours, so we will not promise you a day. What we will promise is that it is sent in good time.

Now to 11 DecOrder any time. Nothing else to decide: no postage to pick, no date to choose.
Fri 11 DecLast day to order for Christmas. We pack by hand, so this closes earlier than the big hamper companies.
From 11 DecOffline Boxes packed and posted, with tracking. Same run for everyone, including WA, the NT and Tasmania.

We post from 11 December and send you tracking. We cannot control what Australia Post does after that, so we do not guarantee a delivery date, and we would rather say that plainly than promise you something that is not ours to promise.

Questions people ask

Anything else, email hello@wearemerri.com.au and a real person will answer.

I’m an Offline Box member. Is my December Offline Box the same as this?

Yes. Your December Offline Box is this Offline Christmas Box: the same Offline Box, the same contents, included in your normal subscription. You don’t need to buy it separately. Buy one here only if you want an extra one to give.

Is this a subscription?

No. It is one Offline Christmas Box, one payment. There is no account to set up and nothing to cancel, ever. If you would like a monthly Offline Box instead, that is The Offline Box at $99 a month.

What exactly is in it?

A large book nook to build, valued at $89 and around seven to eight hours of making. With it: a large pearl watercolour set and an art print, a pot and seeds, an ingredient and recipe card for a Christmas dessert, an outdoor scavenger hunt, a family card game, a weighted eye mask, and the Christmas issue of our magazine, which has the how-to for everything else. We tell you every item so you can judge the value. We keep the details of each one back so the person opening it still has something to discover.

Can you send it straight to them?

Yes, and that is the default. Put their address at checkout and we post it direct, wrapped and sealed, with your message on a card inside. There is no pricing anywhere in the parcel and we will not email them beforehand. If you would rather give it by hand, choose “send it to me” and it comes to you.

When will it be sent?

Orders close Friday 11 December, and every Offline Box goes into the post from that date, wherever it is going in Australia, including WA, the NT and Tasmania. They all go out in the same packing run, so there is no delivery date to choose and no postage to work out. We will send you tracking. We do not guarantee the delivery date itself, because once it is with Australia Post that is out of our hands.

Why is it $199?

It is the biggest thing we make. The book nook on its own is a $89 kit and seven or eight hours of building. On top of that there are seven more things, a magazine we write and print ourselves, and delivery anywhere in Australia including WA, the NT and Tasmania, which is not cheap for an Offline Box this size. Everything is chosen, packed, wrapped and sealed by hand in Melbourne, with love, rather than assembled from a catalogue.

Our monthly Offline Box is $99. This one is considerably bigger, and it is a one-off, so there is nothing ongoing attached to it.

Can you send it to New Zealand?

Yes. Choose New Zealand at checkout and NZ shipping is added there, on top of the $199 Offline Christmas Box. New Zealand Offline Boxes are posted first, so orders to New Zealand close earlier, on Friday 4 December. New Zealand has strict biosecurity rules, so if anything in The Offline Christmas Box can’t cross the border, like the seeds, we swap it for something else.

Is delivery included?

Yes. $199 is the whole price, delivered anywhere in Australia, including WA, the NT and Tasmania. The seeds and the dessert ingredient are both sourced from suppliers approved to ship Australia wide, so nothing gets left out of an Offline Box because of where it is going.

Is there anything in it someone couldn’t eat or use?

There is no alcohol. There is one food item, the ingredient for the Christmas dessert, and it comes with its recipe card. If that is a problem for the person you are buying for, email us before you order and we will work it out with you.

Can I buy more than one?

Up to five in one order, and you can change the number at checkout. If you need more than five, that is Corporate Gifting, which comes with your own card, co-branding and address handling.

What if something goes wrong?

If an Offline Box turns up damaged, tell us within seven days and we will send a new one. If you change your mind before it is packed, email us and we will refund you in full. If it is not right, tell us within seven days and we will fix it or refund it.

Who is MERRI?
